So we did this story ... but I couldn't squeeze the questions out of the photocopier ... so I posted the questions here and showed them on the big screen at the front of the room.

 Questions on “The Veldt” by Ray Bradbury 

1. What elements does the family in this story have in common with a stereotypical 1950’s family? 

2. Why, do you think, there is such a big deal made of the change in the program from the nursery to the lions showing up? 

3. Define the term “Foreshadowing”. Where might a careful student of this story see foreshadowing in this story? 

4. What figure of speech is “Children are carpets, they should be stepped on occasionally”? What does Lydia mean when she says this? 

5. Comment on the impact of technology has had in this family. What kind of impact might be happening in our homes right now? 
6. Define the term “Dystopia”. How might this story be an example of this term?
